There are two enduring
flags, consistently updated and tweaked, that have come to represent the very
core of our Nation, its history, and the founding principles that bind us
together. One, the American flag with her fifty stars and thirteen bars—a
standard that has endured numerous conflicts and massive geographic changes.
And two, the Gadsden flag—a pre-Declaration naval banner that has evolved into
the battle flag for all modern American patriots.
These flags combined represent the continuing spirit of the American people and
our collective struggle for excellence. It highlights our inclination towards
aggressive routes to freedom while simultaneously showcasing the prosperity we
enjoy while in peace.
But most of all, it serves as a reminder that both freedom and prosperity can
only be achieved when you’re willing to fight for it—embodying Patrick Henry’s
famous quote, “Give me liberty, or give me death.”
